The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set to enter a new era in 2026, with the tournament expanding to eight teams and adopting a revised competition format for its 11th edition. Despite the expansion, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has ensured the league remains compact, competitive and fan-friendly within a 39-day window.

PSL 2026 will be played from March 26 to May 3, with matches scheduled across five cities: Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan and, for the first time, Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad.

How the new PSL 2026 format works

The tournament will be played in two phases.

Phase 1: Single-League Stage
All eight teams will face each other once. This means every side plays seven matches, ensuring a balanced and fair contest where teams compete against all opponents.

Phase 2: Super Four Stage
After the league phase, the eight teams will be split into two groups of four. Each team will play three matches in this stage. Performances here will determine which teams advance further.

The top two teams from each group will qualify for the playoffs.

Playoffs structure

The playoffs will consist of four matches, including the final, to crown the PSL 2026 champions. Importantly, even with two additional teams, each franchise will still play a minimum of 10 matches, maintaining consistency with previous seasons.

PSL 2026 format at a glance

Stage Format Matches per team
Phase 1 Single league (8 teams) 7
Phase 2 Super Four (2 groups of 4) 3
Playoffs Top 4 teams Knockout
Minimum matches per team   10

A total of 44 matches are expected to be played during the season.

The PSL, which began in 2016 with five teams and expanded to six in 2018, will undergo its first major restructuring in seven years. With new teams, new venues and a streamlined format, PSL 2026 aims to preserve the league’s competitive edge while bringing top-level T20 cricket to more fans across Pakistan.
