During the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, the Punjab Kings continue to be the second-worst fielding side with a percentage of under 70 as they continue to show their poor performance in catching during the contest against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

On a surface, which was better for batting, the fielders would have helped the bowlers with the catches to continue the pressure on the home side, who benefited from several dropped chances, as the shoulder started to drop for the Punjab Kings, who are at the top of the table so far with six wins in 10 games.

In the seventh over of the innings, Yuzvendra Chahal sent back Travis Head to get themselves back on track. It could have been a fairytale comeback for the visitors had they sent back Ishan Kishan in the very next over, and the leg spinner created the chance only to get frustrated at the end.

Watch the video here:

It was the first delivery of the eighth over. Kishan hit it high in the air towards the deep square leg, where Cooper Connolly dropped a dolly in the deep. He was initially in full control of the catch but spilled it at the last minute. The Australian didn’t need to move an inch, but that didn’t matter.

Shashank Singh, who dropped KL Rahul in that clash when he went on to smash an unbeaten 152 runs, continued the poor fielding show with another dropped chance. It was Chahal again on the firing line as Heinrich Klaasen swept the full ball. The top edge went straight into the hands of the fielder, who got both hands and still dropped it at the end.

In Chahal’s third over, Lockie Ferguson couldn’t hold on to the catch of Kishan as he lunged to his right with his hands and misjudged that ball to put it on the ground.

Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head gave Hyderabad a flying start with the bat before Kishan played a fine knock of 55 runs off 32 balls with the help of two boundaries and four sixes, along with another fifty-run knock from Klaasen.

The latter ended up with 69 runs off 43 balls at a strike rate of 160.47, thanks to four sixes and three boundaries as the home side posted 235/4 in their allotted 20 overs.

Brief Scores (at the time of writing): SRH- 235/4 (Heinrich Klaasen 69, Ishan Kishan 55, Y Chahal 1/32) vs PBKS.
