Raghu Sharma’s journey has been massively impressive, and he showed that during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash for the Mumbai Indians against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The leg spinner bowled pretty well in an evening when the batters smashed the ball all around the park.

After eight overs, the Lucknow side was 123/1 as Nicholas Pooran looked dangerous to be on 63 runs off 20 balls with one four and eight towering sixes. But two successive wickets in the very next over slowed them down as the trend continued for the rest of the innings.

Raghu Sharma picks maiden IPL 2026 wicket with emotional message

It was the very first delivery of Raghu Sharma’s second over when the stand-in MI captain, Suryakumar Yadav, called him into the attack. And the leg spinner earned success instantly.

Watch the video here:

It was a slower delivery to Akshat Raghuvanshi, who shimmed down the surface premeditatively and got beaten in the flight as the ball drifted in. He looked defensive in the approach and pushed it away. But the bat made contact with the pad.

The ball hit the pad as the inside-edge went in the air before the bowler grabbed the simple catch to get the wicket. He soon got a piece of paper out of his pocket, just like Dinesh Ramdin did in that Lord’s Test against England.

“A very painful 15 years. By the divine mercy of Gurudev ended today. Thanks, Mumbai Indians (Blue and Gold), for giving me this opportunity. Ever grateful. Jai Shree Ram.” Raghu’s paper was read.

It captured the essence of his incredible struggle in domestic cricket and his delayed arrival in the IPL stage. That wicket would give him a lot of confidence and faith heading into the future.

MI makes clinical start in 229-run chase

The Lucknow Super Giants were restricted to 228 for the loss of five wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Nicholas made the massive contribution with 63 runs in 21 balls with the help of one four boundary and eight sixes. Mitchell Marsh also cracked 44 runs in 25 balls. But their middle-order struggled badly.

Brief Scores: MI 229/4 (Rohit Sharma 84, R Rickelton 83, M Siddarth 2/47) beat LSG 228/5 (N Pooran 63, C Bosch 2/20) by six wickets.
