Honouring cricketers who have represented the country or done exceptionally well in the sport for a long time is a mere show of respect. Amidst the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) are getting ready to honour some of the best former players of the country. The Apex Council of the association reached a collective decision in February to honour the players.

Former cricketer and head coach Ravi Shastri will be honoured with his own stand at the Wankhede Stadium on April 9. Along with him, the association is also dedicating specific gates to Dilip Sardesai, Eknath Solkar, and Diana Edulji.

MCA to honour Ravi Shastri with stand at iconic venue

MCA is going to honour the former cricketer Ravi Shastri with a stand at the Level 1 Stand below the Press Box at the Wankhede Stadium. The stand will be named after him as a part of the initiative, followed by Gate No. 3, Gate No. 5, and Gate No. 6, which will be formally unveiled as the Dilip Sardesai Gate, Diana Edulji Gate, and Eknath Solkar Gate. The ceremony will be held on April 9, and dignitaries like Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and MCA President Ajinkya Naik will also be present.

MCA President Ajinkya Naik said: "This ceremony marks a proud moment for Mumbai cricket as we come together on 9th April to honour these iconic figures. The unveiling of the Ravi Shastri Stand, along with the dedication of stadium gates to Dilip Sardesai, Eknath Solkar and Diana Edulji, reflects our deep respect for their invaluable contributions.

"We look forward to celebrating their legacy at Wankhede Stadium while inspiring future generations to uphold the same values and strive for greatness," he added.
