Ravichandran Ashwin breaks silence on ‘taboo’ tag on Ahmedabad ahead of IND vs NZ T20 World Cup 2026 Final
The former spin all-rounder of the Indian side, Ravichandran Ashwin, has broken silence on the taboo tag of the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad before the final of the Men's T20 World Cup 2026 between India and New Zealand.

The former Indian off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, has urged the fans not to put any emotional attachment on the mental baggage, as the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host the final of the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 between India and New Zealand. He also reckoned that a ground should not become taboo because of the past defeat.
India lost the final of the ODI World Cup 2023 against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which still remains a talking point, even after three years, as the buildup suggests regarding the pitch and weather conditions of the ground.

“You can lose a game at a venue and win the next one. What is there in this? We have won a lot of games in that stadium. Don’t make a stadium like this taboo. I don’t think it should come into the way. I am sure, after a point in time, that monkey on the back will be there. But now, I don’t think the team will be thinking on those lines.” Ravichandra Ashwin expressed on his YouTube channel.

On the same ground, India, under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, lost the Super 8 clash against South Africa. In that game, they couldn’t bat well in the second innings after the Rainbow Nation posted a massive score on the board.
“We were saying that we hadn’t won an ICC trophy for 10 years. In just a year or six months, we won two ICC trophies. So all these things change. As far as I know, South Africa and Canada played one game on this pitch. The same pitch is being used, and there will be bounce. There was pace in that wicket as well.” Ravichandran Ashwin added in the same interaction.
The 39-year-old, however, also suggested that within the Indian dressing room, there is little interest in revisiting that narrative. The long wait for the trophy has added extra pressure, but they have the chance to write and repeat history by winning the title, being the defending champions.
