Ravichandran Ashwin misses Plane to England after Testing Positive for Covid-19

Ravichandran Ashwin has tested positive for Covid-19 and will not be traveling to England just yet. He is expected to make a full recovery ahead of the Test on July 1st. This will allow him to travel, although on a later day. He is currently in quarantine while the rest of the team left on June 16th. Although Ashwin is likely to be back for the Test, he will be missing the warm-up game against Leicester.

Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and Rahul Dravid, who were part of the T20I squad are also scheduled to join late. They will be available for the warm-up game though. India are currently leading the five Test series 2-1. With the series halted due to a covid outbreak in the Indian line-up, the boards agreed to postpone the fifth Test, which is now going to take place in a few weeks. Unlike last time though, this time both teams will have new captains. Rohit Sharma and Ben Stokes are the new leaders. Along with the Test side, a T20 side will also be travelling to Ireland under the coaching of VVS Laxman.

Coming back to Ravichandran Ashwin, he did not play in any of the four Tests last year. Now, after a gap though, and with the others fit, Ravichandran Ashwin may find himself on the bench again. He is used to playing in England though. Last season as well, to prepare for the England Tests, Ravichandran Ashwin played a game in County Cricket for Surrey. He enjoyed success picking up some wickets and scoring runs as well. He also played all three of the South African Tests earlier this year. With Ravindra Jadeja injured, Ashwin got some game time overseas.

His bowling though was underutilized. With fewer overs under his belt, Ashwin couldn’t find too many wickets, and although he batted well, his batting wasn’t as effective to instill fear in the bowlers.
