In what can prove to be a stunning and daring move, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain, Rajat Patidar, has picked the best captain of the Indian Premier League (IPL) during the 2026 season of the competition. The leader of the defending champions has been excellent with his tactics and bold moves in the game.

Many would have easily assumed that, having been part of the Bengaluru franchise for a few seasons and taken on the responsibility of the side since the last season, he would have chosen Virat Kohli as his best captain in the league, but he went otherwise and picked a different leader.

Rajat Patidar went with Rohit Sharma as the best captain of the IPL during the 2026 season in an interview with Cricbuzz. The former World Cup-winning captain of the Indian side is the second most successful leader of the IPL, with 87 victories in 158 clashes, achieving a win percentage of 55.06 and an overall win rate of 56.32.

Patidar didn’t go with Kohli, who is also good in that aspect, with 66 wins in 143 clashes of the IPL at a winning rate of 46.15%. He was addressed as the best batter of the league in the eyes of Patidar, having been the leading run-getter of the tournament with 8730 runs in 260 innings at an average of around 40 and a strike rate of 133.14 with the help of 64 fifties and eight centuries at the best score of unbeaten 113 runs.

Patidar also went with Faf du Plessis, the former captain of the RCB franchise, as the best fielder of the tournament in the same chat with Cricbuzz.

Rohit Sharma’s performance in his IPL career

Rohit Sharma is the second leading run-getter of the IPL. He has smashed overall 7124 runs in 268 innings at an average of 29.93 and a strike rate of 132.61, scoring 48 half-centuries and two centuries at the best score of unbeaten 109 runs. He has won five trophies for the Mumbai side in the history of the league, with two successive titles in 2019 and 2020.

The Nagpur-born started the IPL 2026 on a high note with a fine knock of 78 runs against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the iconic Wankhede Stadium and showed his old glimpse of pulls for massive sixes into the stands.
