Injury scare for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) ahead of their highly anticipated clash against their arch-rival Chennai Super Kings (CSK). According to claims on social media platforms, RCB all-rounder Tim David got injured during a practice session.
RCB, the defending champions of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026), started their campaign on a strong note, defeating the Sunrisers Hyderabad in a high-scoring match on March 28 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The team looked motivated and performed like a well-oiled machine on the ground in the process of defending the hard-earned title, which they claimed in 2025.
Tim David has reportedly injured himself ahead of the RCB vs CSK IPL 2026 clash
Australia all-rounder Tim David was a part of the RCB line-up in their playing eleven against SRH. David made a significant contribution in the run chase. Batting first, SRH scored 201 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs. Bengaluru chased down the target in only 15.4 overs and won the match by 6 wickets, a dominating win for the team.
For this match, captain Rajat Patidar-led team used David only as a batter, who came to bat as their sixth batter of the line-up to score an unbeaten 16 off 10. If the claims on the social media platform ‘X’ are to be believed, then the star overseas all-rounder can miss the upcoming match against the CSK. Though there is no official statement from the franchise. As there is now official briefs, the injury to Tim David remains another speculation.
Who can be the replacement if David is unavailable to play?
In case David remains uncertain for the IPL 2026 games, then the team will have to find a suitable replacement to fill in the gap. A possible replacement is already in the squad, in the form of Jacob Bethell, who showed his class in the recent past for the England cricket team.

Jacob Bethell’s sole performance against Team India in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2026 won countless cricket fans’ hearts. The middle-order batter smashed a century in a high-pressure situation, which eventually proved insufficient to outplay India.
For the Royal Challengers Bangalore, the 22-year-old participated in only two matches in the IPL 2025 season. In those two games, the southpaw confirmed 67 runs, including a half-century. For most of the tournament, he remained a bench warmer for the team, but the management retained him ahead of the IPL 2026 mini auction, as an important component of the set-up.
Fans reactions on the update
Despite claims about Tim David’s injury scare, fans on social media platforms refuse to believe these reports. “Side strain and calf issue max takes 2-3 weeks... not whole tournament... April fool b bnana tha toh hamstring wgera bol dete,” a cricket fan responded in a comment. While some other fans take the update seriously and suggested including Jacob Bethell in the playing combination.
“Big concern for fans if this turns out to be true, Tim David picking up a suspected side strain could be a major blow. If he misses the Indian Premier League 2026 and no replacement is named, that’s a huge gap in finishing power,” another fan wrote.
