Rekha Gupta's special message for Sanju Samson after meeting

Delhi chief minister, Rekha Gupta, has shared a special message on her meeting with Sanju Samson, who contributed to India’s 3-0 series victory in the T20I series against Afghanistan, where all of the games were played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. It was an away series for the Shreyas Iyer-led side.

Samson has a special bond with Delhi, where he played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for two seasons in 2016 and 2017 when the Rajasthan Royals (RR) faced bans for two years. Samson smashed 386 runs in the 2017 season for Delhi at a strike rate of 141.39, with two fifties and one century at the best score of 102.

CM Gupta congratulated Samson on joining Delhi, where she addressed the wicket-keeper batter as the ‘youth icon.’ She also revealed the special bond between Delhi and the Kerala-born batter and hoped for Samson to inspire the youth of Delhi towards new skills and self-reliance.

“Met Bharat’s star cricketer and youth icon Shri Sanju Samson and congratulated him on joining Team Delhi! Sanju shares a special bond with Delhi, where he spent his early years and began his cricketing journey.” Gupta wrote on his X account (formerly known as Twitter).

MLA Shri Harish Khurana was also present during the meeting along with the senior members of the Trinity Foundation and the IACT Education.

“Now, as Brand Ambassador of Jan Kaushal Kendra, Moti Nagar, appointed by the Madan Lal Khurana Foundation, he will inspire Delhi’s youth towards skills, opportunities and self-reliance. How did Samson perform in the Afghanistan T20I series in Delhi?

Samson, who was dropped from the T20I team of India during their series against England and wasn’t considered for the Zimbabwe series, returned with a low score during the opening T20I against Afghanistan in Delhi.

However, the right-handed batter made a strong comeback during the last two clashes with two successive half-centuries. In the second game, he smashed 57 runs off just 22 balls at a strike rate of 259.09, smashing seven boundaries and four sixes.

Samson finished the series with another fine knock of 50 runs off 35 balls at a strike rate of 142.85, thanks to his four sixes and a pair of boundaries.
