India’s explosive middle-order batsman in the limited-overs formats, Rinku Singh, is on the verge of earning a Test call-up. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has included him in the lineup for the second A-tour match against England Lions, coinciding with England’s five-match Test series against Rohit Sharma’s team.

The BCCI’s announcement on January 23 marked Rinku’s addition to the squad for the second game, as he was initially named only for the third A-tour encounter against the Lions. The upcoming tour game is scheduled to take place in Ahmedabad from January 24.

While recently serving as a reserve for the Indian team during the South Africa Test series, Rinku showcased his skills in the field but did not get the opportunity to bat. Nevertheless, he has been in exceptional form on the international stage, registering two consecutive half-centuries. In the second T20I against South Africa, Rinku scored an unbeaten 68, and in the final T20I against Afghanistan, he played a crucial role with an unbeaten 69, rescuing India alongside captain Rohit Sharma.

During the break from the international schedule, Rinku remained active, participating in Ranji Trophy matches against Kerala and Bihar. He contributed significantly with a score of 92 against Kerala and 10 runs against Bihar.

Currently, Rinku is vying for a spot in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, with pundits endorsing him to feature prominently in the middle order during the ICC tournament.
