Bangladesh claimed a big win against West Indies in the low-scoring first ODI of the three-match ODI series at Mirpur, where the leg-spinner Rishad Hossain generated the historic bowling figures for his nation.
Rishad Hossain became first Bangladesh spinner to record an ODI six-wicket haul
Bangladesh successfully defended 207 runs as they bundled out West Indies for 133 runs under the light, where Rishad Hossain recorded a six-fer, as he became the first Bangladesh spinner and third Bangladesh bowler to record an ODI six-wicket haul by recording the third best ODI bowling figures for Bangladesh.
After scoring a crucial 26 runs off just 13 balls with one four and two sixes, Rishad brought his bowling magic in the second innings. He became the 13th ODI cricketer and first Bangladesh ODI cricketer to score at least 25 runs and pick up at least six wickets in the same ODI. He broke the 51-run opening partnership for West Indies, as the openers Brandon King (44) and Alick Athanaze (27) were the only batters to manage the 20-run mark in that innings, and the Caribbean batting line-up had only two more double-digit scores.
Apart from dismissing both openers, Rishad also took the wickets of Keacy Carty (9), Sherfane Rutherford (0), Roston Chase (6), and Jayden Seales (3), as the leg-spinner finished with the bowling figures of 9-0-35-6. He became the fifth spinner to record an ODI six-wicket haul against West Indies. Meanwhile, Mustafizur Rahman got two wickets (2/16), and one wicket each for Tanvir Islam (1/46) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (1/16).
While Bangladesh defended 207 runs after winning it by 74 runs, it was their fourth-lowest successfully defended total in their ODI history, second-lowest among the ICC Full Members.
