Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha dropped as Pakistan announce squad for third Test vs England at Edgbaston

After a disappointing 2-0 series defeat against England, Pakistan have made major changes to their squad and support staff ahead of the third and final Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

Mohammad Rizwan, Imam-ul-Haq, Salman Ali Agha, Ali Usman, Aamir Jamal, Muhammad Awais Zafar and Khurram Shahzad have been released from the touring squad. Imam-ul-Haq was injured during the second Test at Lord’s, while the other players have also been sent home after Pakistan’s poor performances.

The PCB has also released coaches Sarfaraz Ahmed and Umar Gul from their roles. Mike Hesson and Ashley Noffke will replace them in the support staff, while Pakistan have named seven replacements, including five uncapped players and two cricketers with previous Test experience.

Pakistan are already out of contention for a place in the World Test Championship final, making the final Test even more important for the team to regain confidence.

Saim Ayub and Abdullah Fazal have received call-ups for the third Test, which begins on September 9 in Birmingham. Fast bowlers Razaullah Khan and Mohammad Imran, left-arm spinner Arafat Minhas and wicketkeeper Saad Baig could also join the squad if their UK visas are arranged in time.

Mike Hesson takes charge as Sarfaraz Ahmed and Umar Gul are also released

Pakistan have made changes to their coaching staff after losing the first two Tests against England. White-ball coach Mike Hesson has been asked to take charge of the Test team for the remainder of the current WTC cycle.

Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul have been released from their roles. Hesson will lead the red-ball team, while Ashley Noffke will also join the coaching staff as Pakistan prepare for the upcoming Tests.

The changes come after Pakistan suffered a 194-run defeat to England in the second Test at Lord’s. England now lead the three-match series 2-0, with the third Test set to begin in Birmingham.

Saim Ayub and Abdullah Fazal earn recall as PCB rebuilds squad for Birmingham Test

Saim Ayub and Abdullah Fazal have earned recalls to Pakistan’s Test squad for the third Test against England in Birmingham. Ayub has played eight Tests, while Fazal has represented Pakistan in two Tests. Left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder Arafat Minhas has also been included after playing three ODIs and four T20Is.

The other additions are left-arm fast bowler Mohammad Imran Jnr, wicketkeeper-batter Saad Baig, right-arm pace-bowling all-rounder Mohammad Imran, also known as Imran Randhawa, and right-arm pace-bowling all-rounder Razaullah. Saad Baig was named Player of the Tournament in the 2025-26 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.

The newly selected players will join the Pakistan squad ahead of the third Test in Birmingham. Pakistan have made major changes to their squad after losing the first two Tests against England and will look to end the series on a positive note.
