India’s ODI skipper Rohit Sharma recently reunited with former teammates Zaheer Khan and Yuvraj Singh, both of whom were part of the 2011 World Cup-winning squad. The trio posed for a cheerful photo, with Rohit dressed in black, Yuvraj in a printed T-shirt and shorts, and Zaheer opting for a casual shirt and pants. The meet-up came during Rohit’s break from cricket, as India has no scheduled 50-over matches before October. Rohit Sharma's time off has been well deserved after the IPL 2025 concluded.
At 38, and having recently retired from Test cricket, Rohit is navigating the baton that a previous chapter of his career has closed. After leading India to the T20 World Cup title in 2024, he soon announced his retirement from T20s, but is still very much a part of the ODI format. Earlier in the year, under his captaincy India lifted the ICC Champions Trophy after defeating New Zealand by four wickets. Rohit captained India in the 2023 ODI World Cup and led his team to a runner finish against Australia.

Looking ahead, Rohit Sharma’s next appearance will be in the three-match ODI series against Australia, starting October 19. Before that, Team India’s immediate assignment will be the 2025 Asia Cup, set to be played in the T20 format. Suryakumar Yadav will captain India in the tournament with India in Group A, where its arch-rivals Pakistan are also placed. Fans are excited to see Rohit return to action as he is likely to be key to any continued Indian success in the ODI format.
“Buggi night with Shana log,” Zaheer Khan shared the photo of himself along with Rohit Sharma and Yuvraj Singh.
Rohit Sharma rises to No. 2 in ICC ODI rankings
India’s ODI captain Rohit Sharma has climbed to the No. 2 spot in the latest ICC ODI men’s batting rankings despite not playing since March. He moved up one place after Pakistan’s Babar Azam lost rating points following a poor ODI series against West Indies, where he scored just 56 runs as Pakistan lost 2-1. Shubman Gill continues to lead the rankings at No. 1, while Virat Kohli holds fourth place. The update comes amid ongoing speculation over Rohit’s future in cricket, with India now boasting four players in the top 10 ODI batting rankings.
The star India batter last donned India's jersey during the 2025 Champions Trophy, in which India lifted their second ever Champions Trophy. In the tournament, he scored 180 runs in five matches, the fourth-highest for India, but had the best strike rate among top-order batters. Babar’s dip in form allowed Rohit to overtake him in the rankings. India’s batting strength is further reflected with Shreyas Iyer, the team’s top scorer in the Champions Trophy, at eighth place and KL Rahul ranked 15th. This massive presence in the ICC rankings highlights depth as well as dominance of India in the ODI format heading into future series.
