Former India captain Rohit Sharma has started preparing for the IPL 2026 season. Some videos of him practicing at Shivaji Park have gone viral on social media. The next IPL season will begin on March 28, and the final will be held on May 31.
Earlier, Hardik Pandya replaced Rohit as the captain of the Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise. Sharma had led MI to five IPL titles since he became captain midway through the 2013 season.
On Saturday, March 7, to get ready for the upcoming tournament, Rohit took to the nets, drawing a large crowd eager to watch the former India skipper in action. He also played some of his trademark pull shots.

Rohit Sharma Gears Up for IPL 2026 with Mumbai Indians
The veteran batter is preparing for the IPL 2026 season. During IPL 2025, he scored 418 runs in 15 innings at an average of 29.85 and a strike rate of 149.28. He registered four half-centuries, with a highest score of 81. The Mumbai Indians’ campaign ended with a loss to Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the eliminator, as the team continues to chase its first title since 2020.
Looking at his overall IPL record, the 38-year-old has played 272 matches and scored 7,046 runs in 267 innings. His average is 29.73 with a strike rate of 132.09. He has hit 47 half-centuries and 2 centuries, with a highest score of an unbeaten 109.
Earlier, the Mumbai Indians unveiled their new jersey on March 6, featuring Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah. The team will be strengthened by the return of Quinton de Kock from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and new additions like Shardul Thakur and Sherfane Rutherford.
