In the 62nd match of the IPL 2024 season, the Royal Challengers Bangalore continued their impressive winning streak by defeating the Delhi Capitals by 47 runs in Bengaluru on May 12. The match witnessed an exciting clash between RCB and DC, with both teams aiming to secure crucial points in the tournament.

RCB’s Batting Performance

RCB started their innings on a positive note, with openers Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis laying a solid foundation. However, early setbacks saw Kohli and Du Plessis depart within the powerplay overs. Virat Kohli fell during the powerplay, caught out by his former Delhi teammate Ishant Sharma for 27 runs.

Rajat Patidar and Will Jacks steadied the ship with a crucial partnership, guiding RCB to a competitive total. Patidar’s consistent form was evident as he contributed a valuable half-century. Rajat Patidar and Will Jacks formed a crucial partnership of 88 runs, guiding RCB from 36/2 to 124/3 by the 12.3rd over, before Patidar was eventually dismissed.

Patidar contributed with a 32-ball 52, showcasing his consistent form for the home team. Jacks, after scoring 41 runs, was also sent back to the pavilion in the 15th over, courtesy of a delivery from Kuldeep Yadav. Green’s resilient unbeaten 32 helped RCB post a competitive total of 187/9 in their allotted 20 overs.

DC’s Chase

In response, DC faced early setbacks with losing key wickets, including that of David Warner in the first over. What followed for the visitors was a top-order meltdown as Jake Frazer McGurk and Abishek Porel both lost their wickets cheaply within the powerplay on 21 and 2 runs respectively.

Despite efforts from Shai Hope, Axar Patel, and Tristan Stubbs, DC struggled to maintain momentum in their chase.

Hope got dismissed after a gritty 23-ball 29. With the score at 86/5 at 9.3 overs, Axar Patel and Tristan Stubbs got the task on themselves to take DC over the line in what was proving to be a challenging task. However, Tristan Stubbs’ early dismissal left Axar Patel as the only proper batter on the crease.

Axar Patel’s well-made 57 on the night kept DC’s innings going but never got them looking like they would take the 2 points away from the hosts. In the end, Delhi Capitals were restricted to just 140, eventually putting a big dent in their playoff hopes.

Analysis of the Match

RCB’s strong batting performance, coupled with DC’s top-order collapse, highlighted the home team’s dominance. While Axar Patel’s resilient innings provided some resistance, DC fell short of the target, denting their playoff hopes.

With this win RCB move to the 5th spot. RCB’s convincing victory over DC further solidifies their position in the IPL 2024 tournament. The match showcased RCB’s strong form and DC’s challenges, setting the stage for an exciting remainder of the season.
