For the entire Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Ruturaj Gaikwad found himself under pressure as the leader of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in scoring runs with the bat and making the vital decisions. But he produced a superb run-out of Rahul Tewatia with a rocket throw against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. 

Chennai started the penultimate over of the first innings by conceding a massive six. But on the very second delivery, they earned the wicket of Sai Sudharsan and continued the momentum with the dismissal of Tewatia.

It was a full delivery on the off stump from Anshul Kamboj to Rahul Tewatia, who squeezed his drive to the mid-off region and straightaway set off for a single. Ruturaj Gaikwad swooped down and hit a direct hit at the non-striker’s end.

At the naked eye, it felt like the batter had made the ground before the ball crashed into the stumps. But the third umpire got a different and right picture, which showed that the southpaw was late to drag his bat inside the line and was short by a couple of inches.

In a season where fielding has been below average from most sides with respect to expectations, it was a great throw from Gaikwad. However, that was not enough to slow down Jos Buttler from the other end, who celebrated his fifty off just 23 balls.

Earlier in the innings, the Titans made a flying start thanks to the strong opening partnership of 125 runs between Shubman Gill and Sudharsan. The latter clubbed 84 runs off 53 balls at a strike rate of 158.49, while the Indian ODI captain drilled 64 runs in 37 balls.

In reply, Chennai lost three wickets inside their first three overs of the chase despite getting off to a flying start as Mohammed Siraj picked all of those three wickets to put the CSK top order on the floor.
