For the entire Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, Zimbabwe have displayed some fabulous catching, especially during the leg in Sri Lanka, before putting up several catches in India for the first couple of games of the Super 8 stage against West Indies and India. But they returned to their best in the fielding department in their last game of the event against South Africa at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Before the ball on which he was dismissed, Ryan Rickelton was hit hard on his head, which created a few doubts in his mind about playing the short balls. And Zimbabwe used that tactic brilliantly. On the penultimate delivery of the powerplay, Brad Evans dismissed the left-handed batter for 31 runs off 22 balls.

It was the short ball from Evans to Rickelton, who tried to take it on with the pull, but it held in the surface, and he was early on moving his stick as the ball went high in the air, but didn’t get the desired elevation of crossing the boundary rope.

There was an initial misjudgment from Ryan Burl, who made a superb recovery later. He came running in for the catch and realised that it would be going over him, and then had to backtrack. Acrobatically, he grabbed the ball at the end and sent the left-handed batter back into the pavilion.

Earlier in the game, Zimbabwe, despite losing wickets from one end due to their aggressive approach with the bat, made their way to 153 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. Their captain, Sikandar Raza, smashed a fine and dashing knock of 73 runs in 43 balls with the help of eight boundaries and four sixes at a strike rate of nearly 170.

The Proteas, despite the early nightmare, completed the chase by five wickets with 13 balls to spare. Dewald Brevis played the game-changing knock of 42 runs in 18 balls with the help of two boundaries and four sixes. Quite extra-ordinarily, Rickelton nailed four sixes in his 31-run knock.

Brief Scores: SA 154/5 (Dewald Brevis 42, Sikandar Raza 3/29) beat Zimbabwe 153/7 (Sikandar Raza 73, Kwena Maphaka 2/21) by 5-wickets.
