In a major clarification, Sachin Tendulkar has officially dismissed speculation regarding his candidacy for the role of President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). On September 11, 2025, his management company, SRT Sports Management Pvt Ltd, issued a statement strongly distancing the batting icon from the rumors.

The clarification comes at a critical time for the BCCI as it prepares for the Annual General Meeting (AGM), which will be held on September 28, and where elections will be taking place for several critical positions, including president and IPL chairman. With the top post vacant following Roger Binny’s exit earlier this month after turning 70, speculation had intensified around possible successors.

“It has come to our attention that certain reports and rumors have been circulating regarding Mr. Sachin Tendulkar being considered, or nominated, for the position of President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). We wish to categorically state that no such development has taken place. We urge all concerned to refrain from giving credence to unfounded speculations,” the official statement read.

Tendulkar Distances Himself from Administrative Role

The rumors gained traction after reports suggested that former players could once again be in line for top administrative positions, a path previously taken by Roger Binny and Sourav Ganguly. However, sources indicate that Tendulkar is unlikely to pursue or accept such a role, with little possibility of him being nominated by a state association for the AGM.

Meanwhile, IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal may face a mandatory cooling-off period, further adding to the uncertainty around BCCI’s leadership transition. With Binny stepping down, the cricket board is in search of new leadership, but it now appears certain that Tendulkar will not be part of the race for the presidency.
