The cricketing world and the nation have witnessed a somber moment when the legendary singer, Asha Bhosle, passed away on April 12. The former captain of the Indian cricket team, Sachin Tendulkar, who shared a deep and filial bond with the playback queen, appeared moved as the mortal remains of the melody icon were laid to rest with full state honors.

Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash between the Rajat Patidar-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) side and Hardik Pandya-led the Mumbai Indians (MI) side at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, all the players, management, fans, and others spent a two-minute silence in her memory. 

Sachin Tendulkar pays final tribute to legendary Asha Bhosle

Sachin Tendulkar, accompanied by his wife, Anjali, was among the first from the sporting fraternity to arrive. The legendary player, who has most often referred to Asha as his mother figure, looked grief-stricken as he stood by the family during their hour of immense loss. 

The atmosphere in Mumbai was heavy with sadness as the final rites for Asha Tai were conducted. Tendulkar also shared a message after getting the news on her X account (formerly known as Twitter).

“A deeply sad day for India, and for music lovers across the world. For us, Asha Tai was family. Today, words feel too small for the loss we feel. One moment, the heart falls silent, and the next, it drifts through the countless melodies she gifted all of us.” The Mumbai-born expressed.

“It feels as though time itself has paused. Yet through her eternal songs, she will remain timeless forever. Thank you, Tai, for filling our lives with warmth, grace, and unforgettable music. We will miss you beyond words, Asha Tai.” Sachin addressed.

Key details of farewell to legendary Asha Bhosle

Recognizing her monumental contribution to the Indian musical industry and the culture, the legendary singer was honored with the National Tricolor. Mumbai Police ceremonial band performed a salute for the final time, which marked the end of an unparalleled eight-decade career.

In the touching tribute to her personal preferences, Asha Tai was also dressed in a vibrant blue saree, a color which she famously adored and was often seen wearing at the major public events.

The other figures of the film and music industry, including Tabu, were also present during the final tribute.
