The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) started quite strongly with 34 runs in the first 15 balls of the innings with a flurry of boundaries during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 encounter against the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. However, things didn’t go their way once they lost the first wicket.

Gujarat, whose captain Shubman Gill, invited the visiting side to bat on the black-soil surface, displayed some great fielding and catching performance to put pressure on the batting line-up, who kept losing wickets one after another.

Sai Sudharsan grabs phenomenal catch in IPL 2026 vs RCB

After the dismissal of Devdutt Padikkal as their seventh wicket in the evening, Bengaluru used their impact player card in the form of Venkatesh Iyer in the expectation of getting runs off the blade towards the end overs. That was the third time he was batting at number nine in his T20 career.

Watch the video here:

The left-handed batter was struggling on four runs off nine balls before continuing to struggle. On the penultimate delivery of the 19th over of the innings, Iyer picked up the pitched-up delivery in the slot as he cleared his front leg and drilled it down the ground to the long-off region for a fine boundary with excellent timing.

However, on the very first delivery of the last over, Arshad Khan dismissed the MP star on 12 runs off 15 balls with one boundary. It was a full delivery angled into the stumps as Iyer swung across the line towards the mid-wicket region.

The bat turned in his hand, but he still went through the short and hit it in the air towards the long-on region, where Sai Sudharsan dived forward. He initially didn’t hold onto the catch but grabbed it at the end.

RCB bundled out for first time in IPL 2026

The Bengaluru side was restricted to 155 runs on the board in 19.2 overs. This was the first time he was bowled out this season. In the middle overs between the seventh and 15th over of the innings, he collected only 73 runs in nine overs for the loss of six wickets at a run rate of 8.11.

Arshad finished with a fine figure of 3/22 in 3.2 overs, while both Jason Holder and Rashid Khan ended with strong combined numbers of 4/48 in eight overs.

Brief Scores (at the time of writing): GT 42/1 (Shubman Gill 36*, Bhuvneshwar Kumar 1/18) vs RCB 155 (Devdutt Padikkal 40, Arshad Khan 3/22)
