Sanju Samson got a grand welcome as he returned to his native Kerala after India lifted the ICC Men's T20 World Cup trophy in 2026. The wicketkeeper-batter reached home on March 9 after playing an important role in India’s title-winning campaign. His arrival turned into a memorable and emotional homecoming for the Indian cricketer.
A touching moment from Samson’s return soon went viral on social media. When he came home, his mother Liz Viswanath and his father Samson Viswanath warmly hugged him. His emotional meeting showed pride and happiness after watching their son become a World Cup champion. Fans called the beautiful moment the most special part of his homecoming celebration.
Samson had a remarkable tournament with the bat and played a key role in India’s title run. He finished as India’s leading run-scorer in the competition. The Kerala star scored 321 runs in five innings with a stunning strike rate of 199.37. His performances included a brilliant 97* against the West Indies, 89 against England in the semifinal and another 89 in the final against New Zealand.

In his speech after the match, Sanju Samson spoke of how he became stronger following the difficult phases in his career. “I am trained to look at situations in a positive manner from my childhood days. I feel that all the pain, setbacks, and disappointments in life and in my career, if used positively, can be a great strength in your life. That’s what happened, and I’m very grateful.”
