SFU vs MINY: 6, 6... Trent Boult's unbelievable batting keeps MINY's MLC 2025 Final dreams alive

When MI New York was about to lose all their hopes to qualify for the final of MLC 2025, Trent Boult saved the day with his unbelievable batting skills. The world-class pacer played an unbelievable innings with the bat at number 9 and dragged MINY one step closer to the ongoing Major League Cricket final. 

MINY had a very poor track record against the San Francisco Unicorns (SFU); they never got to win a match against SFU. So, based on pen and paper and recent performances, San Francisco was the clear favorite to win the match. All the equations started to change when MI clinched 5 wickets during the powerplay. SFU lost half of their batting unit in the first inning, when the team was only 16. From 16/5, they somehow managed to claim 131/10 in 19.1 overs. Emerging talent Rushil Ugarkar bagged 3 wickets and a couple of braces for Trent Boult and Nosthush Kenjige. 

The match was full of surprises—SFU's collapsing batting, a low-scoring match, and in the end, Trent Boult's stormy batting; all that came out of the script. On a tricky Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium, Texas, surface, both teams struggled to build the required momentum. MINY, with multiple swashbuckling batters, had to witness a crumbling middle order. They started the run chase well with their opening pair of Monank Patel (33) and Quinton De Kock (33). After the exits of the openers, MINY's middle order couldn't sustain the pressure and fell down—from 43/1 to 108/8.

A pair 6 change the momentum of the match 

The team in blue was on the verge of losing the battle, but Boult had different thoughts. The 35-year-old, mostly known for his bowling skills, showed how to bat in a dire situation. He took his time on the wicket and then launched back-to-back two sixes in a Hassan Khan over. That couple of over-the-boundary tilts the momentum towards MINY again, and they did not turn back. Boult's match-winning unbeaten 22-run of 13 balls became the highlight of the match. 

After losing 8 wickets, the team from New York won the match versus San Francisco by 2 wickets and 3 balls to spare. MINY will next face Texas Super Kings on July 12 (Saturday). This match will decide the opponent for Washington Freedom in the final match of MLC 2025.
