After the successful first leg of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, the action moved to the National Stadium in Karachi. In the second encounter at the venue, the Islamabad United met the Lahore Qalandars as both stand at a critical position in the points table.

Islamabad captain, Shadab Khan, won the toss and opted to field first on a surface, which he reckoned would get better in the second innings for chasing. The Qalandars made only one change to their playing eleven with the inclusion of Ryan Burl in place of Parvez Hossain Emon.

On the second ball of the fifth over against the left-arm spinner, Imad Wasim, the right-handed batter, Abdullah Shafique, sat on his knee and belted the arm ball over the mid-wicket region with a well-timed slog sweep for a massive six. 

But on the third delivery of the fifth over, Islamabad sent back Shafique for 10 runs. And that was possible only because of the United captain, who took a stunning catch. The batter stepped out for a massive hit but didn’t get near the pitch of the delivery. He still went through with the shot and ended up forcing the ball off the bottom half of the bat towards mid-off.

The ball travelled rapidly, and that was enough for Shadab to dive full length and grab it with both hands. The umpire wanted to check, but called it clean as a whistle. The ball was under his control as he didn’t let it touch the ground at any point.

Lahore didn’t make a good start at all with the bat. Their top order failed to get the runs under their belt. Only Sikandar Raza was able to cross the 20-run mark individually. Meanwhile, Wasim was excellent with his line and length and finished with a fine spell of 2/13 in four overs. Chris Green and Shadab had joint figures of 4/30 in six overs.
