Indian cricketer and Punjab Kings batter Shashank Singh has broken his silence after an FIR was filed against him, his father Shailesh Singh, and the family's driver over allegations made by a man identified as Vipendra Singh Tomar. Reacting to the case, Shashank strongly denied the accusations and claimed, "He wasn't a cook at all," insisting that the complainant had misrepresented himself.
The FIR was registered at Ratibad Police Station in Bhopal following a complaint by 31-year-old Vipendra Singh Tomar, who alleged assault, verbal abuse and wrongful confinement. The complaint names Shashank, his father—a retired IPS officer—and the family's driver. The case has attracted significant attention, with police beginning an investigation into the allegations.
Responding to the controversy in an interview with ANI, Shashank rejected all the claims and said the complaint does not reflect what actually happened. The Punjab Kings batter maintained that the complainant was never employed as the family's cook and stated that the allegations against him and his family are false.

According to a report by several Indian media outlets, Vipendra Singh Tomar was hired on June 25 with a monthly salary of ₹15,000, along with free food, accommodation and the promise of a government job. However, Tomar alleged that the atmosphere in the house became tense within a few days, with frequent arguments over the quality of the food he prepared.
According to the complaint, Tomar decided to leave the job because of the situation at the house. He alleged that his mobile phone was taken away, preventing him from contacting anyone. Fearing for his safety, he locked himself inside a room.

Tomar further claimed that Shashank Singh, his father Shailesh Singh and the family's driver broke open the door, assaulted him and forced him out of the house. A medical examination reportedly found injuries on his face and body. Based on the complaint, Ratibad Police registered an FIR against the three accused and have started an investigation into the matter. Shashank Singh has denied all the allegations and said the complainant's version of events is false.
Shashank Singh denies assault claims, calls accusations "completely false" amid growing controversy
Responding to the FIR, Shashank Singh strongly denied the assault allegations and claimed that the complainant had falsely presented himself as a cook. The Punjab Kings batter said the family never held him against his will and questioned his intentions from the very beginning.
"No, we didn't hold him hostage. It is true that he arrived claiming to be a cook, but he wasn't a cook at all. He didn't know how to cook; he was just here to have fun, taking videos and photos, and even going into my room. Since he was doing things like that, I suspect he came with the intention of stealing. We are very fortunate that, from what we've checked so far, nothing has been stolen."

The Indian crickter also responded to allegations that the complainant's mobile phone had been taken away. He said the phone contained private photos and videos of the family's home, which is why his mother asked the complainant to delete them.
"It is true that his phone contained videos and photos of the house, so my mother had him delete them because they were very private."
The 34-year-old added that his family had even considered calling the police after discovering the recordings inside the house but decided against it after the complainant apologised.
"The police haven't approached us so far. When we caught him taking photos and videos, my sister suggested dialling 100. But he pleaded, and I let him go."
