Shreyas Iyer To Join BCCI Central Contract in Grade A

Shreyas Iyer is to return to the BCCI Central Contract list and is expected to be included in Grade A. This follows his exclusion from the last contract on account of having had limited opportunities to play domestic cricket.

Why Was Iyer Excluded Before?
In February 2024, Shreyas Iyer was left out of the central contract list by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The reason behind this was his not attending domestic tournaments while being fit.
The BCCI had already established that players have to participate in domestic cricket if they are not playing for the national team.

Why Is He Being Reinstated?
Iyer came back strongly by playing good cricket in domestic tournaments. He represented Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy, scoring 480 runs from five matches at a remarkable average of 68.57.
In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he had a marvelous average of 325.00 from five matches. His performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy was also impressive.Aside from home performances, Iyer was also among the leading run-scorers in ICC Champions Trophy 2025, in which he scored 243 runs in five games and was instrumental to the success of India.
