Instead of showing intentions of cooling down, rumors related to the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season have become more intense because of Shreyas Iyer's possible future in Punjab Kings (PBKS) for IPL 2026.

There are some claims on social media, claiming that for the star cricketer, multiple IPL franchises have shown interest in acquiring the batter with brilliant leadership qualities. Iyer, who drove PBKS to the final of IPL 2025 and won IPL 2024 with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as the captain, got the hype in the last edition of the tournament for valid reasons.

He did his job with precision as a captain and as a batsman as well. Throughout the IPL 2025 journey, Punjab Kings was looking dominant and ready to lift the trophy. But it was Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) who got their maiden IPL title, defeating PBKS in the final. As a batsman, Iyer's stats were beyond expectations. After playing 17 IPL 2025 games, the 30-year-old scored a total of 604 runs, including a highest score of an unbeaten 97, which helped him to maintain an average of 50.33.

Will he change his team again?

Recent reports further claimed that despite multiple proposals, Iyer has not shown any sign of changing his destination again. He can continue with Punjab Kings for the next season also. The Mumbai-born's exit from Kolkata Knight Riders was sudden. After winning the IPL 2024 silverware, he left the franchise to spin his luck in the mega auction.

Shreyas Iyer was bought by the PBKS for INR 26.75 crore at the IPL 2025 auction, which made him the second-most expensive player in the history of the IPL at the time, behind Rishabh Pant, who was bought by the Lucknow Super Giants for INR 27 crore. Spending over INR 26 crore reflects Kings' trust in the cricketer as a long-term prospect.
