Shubman Gill discharged from Chennai Hospital
Shubman Gill was admitted to a hospital in Chennai before India’s upcoming match against Afghanistan. The prominent opening batsman didn’t accompany the Indian squad to Delhi for their next game against Afghanistan, and his participation in the match against Pakistan on October 14 is now uncertain.

Indian batsman Shubman Gill, who experienced a drop in his platelet count on Sunday, October 8, has been discharged from a Chennai hospital after receiving treatment for dengue. Reliable sources have confirmed that Gill’s health condition led to his hospitalization as a precautionary measure just before the team’s departure to Delhi for their forthcoming match against Afghanistan.
“Shubman Gill’s platelet count decreased, leading to his admission to a Chennai hospital as a precautionary step. The BCCI’s medical team is closely monitoring his progress,” sources informed India Today.

Gill was discharged from the Chennai hospital on Tuesday morning, according to reports from PTI news agency. He has since returned to the team hotel, where he will continue to receive medical supervision from the BCCI medical team.
Unfortunately, Gill missed India’s initial match against Australia in Chennai due to his health issues, although he had traveled with the team to the southern Indian city. However, he did not travel to New Delhi.
India is scheduled to face Afghanistan in New Delhi on October 11, with the highly anticipated clash against Pakistan set to take place in Ahmedabad on Saturday.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officially announced on Monday that Gill would not be joining the team in Delhi on October 9, 2023. The statement read, “Team India batsman Shubman Gill will not be traveling with the team to Delhi on 9th October 2023. The opening batsman, who missed the team’s first fixture in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 against Australia in Chennai, is set to miss the team’s next fixture against Afghanistan in Delhi on the 11th of October. He will stay back in Chennai and will be under the supervision of the medical team.”
Shubman Gill’s Absence in World Cup 2023
Gill, one of India’s top batters in the past year, was expected to play a significant role in the ongoing ODI World Cup. However, his battle with dengue has thrown a wrench into his plans, especially with regard to India’s match against Pakistan, scheduled for Ahmedabad on October 14.
In Gill’s absence, Ishan Kishan is expected to once again partner with Rohit Sharma as the opening pair. Both openers struggled in the opening match against Australia, registering ducks. Despite this, India managed to secure a victory in their chase of 200 runs in Chennai, thanks to the contributions of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul.
