Indian captain Shubman Gill has all but confirmed that ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah will be back in the playing XI for the third Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series against England. After India’s dominant 336-run win in the second Test at Edgbaston, which leveled the series 1-1, Gill was asked about Bumrah’s availability for the Lord’s Test, and his answer was both short and significant. "Definitely," Gill replied with a smile, sending a strong signal that the team’s premier fast bowler is set to return.

Bumrah was rested for the second Test as part of workload management after playing the series opener. In his absence, debutant Akash Deep made the most of the opportunity, delivering a sensational performance with match figures of 10 for 167, including 6-99 in the second innings. His fiery spells, particularly on a batting-friendly Edgbaston pitch, were key to India’s first-ever Test win at the venue.

Gill Confirms Bumrah’s Return as India Gears Up for Crucial Third Test at Lord’s

Reflecting on India’s turnaround after the Leeds heartbreak, Gill credited the bowling and fielding unit. “We knew if we got 400-500 on this kind of wicket, we’d be in the game. Our bowling and fielding were tremendous,” he said. He also praised Akash Deep, saying, “He bowled with heart, hit the right areas, and moved the ball both ways not easy on this surface.”

With Bumrah expected to return and Akash Deep’s emergence, India suddenly finds itself with a rich pace arsenal heading into the third Test at Lord’s. Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Ravindra Jadeja also played supporting roles in the second Test win, while Gill starred with the bat, scoring a historic 269 and 161 in the two innings.

With confidence, form, and the probable return of their pace spearhead, India is now carrying momentum into the third Test. With both teams level and the pressure building, all eyes will be on Lord's when the series resumes.
