Gujarat Titans’ success in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 was dependent on their captain, Shubman Gill’s performance with the bat at the opening position. They earned a nervy last-over victory during the previous clash against the Delhi Capitals (DC) and hoped for the same against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

Gill made a decent start to the campaign with a half-century in the previous clash as he continued the same dominance during the chase, helping the franchise earn another win and be among the top sides of the competition for this edition.

Shubman Gill drills Mohammed Shami for no-look six

Gujarat made a defensive start to their chase with the opening pair of Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan getting only 25 runs in four overs. But most importantly, they didn’t lose a single wicket, which pushed Rishabh Pant, the LSG captain, to continue with Mohammed Shami for his third over inside the powerplay.

On the third ball of the over, Gill whipped the delivery from the leg stump into the fine leg region for a boundary. But the most impressive shot of the evening was his no-look six, and that too straight down the ground against a bowler who has been in tremendous form.

Watch the video here:

It was pitched up as the right-handed batter went through with the drive, and a clean swing of the bat earned him a maximum for himself. He finished the over with successive boundaries to earn 20 runs off the over.

The Punjab-born, who became the youngest to cross the 4000-run landmark in the history of the IPL during the course of this knock, ended up with 56 runs in 40 balls at a strike rate of 140, thanks to six boundaries and one six.

GT dominate LSG in 165-run chase

Along with Gill, Jos Buttler, who made a strong return to the T20s after a poor T20 World Cup 2026 with England, continued the form with another half-century. The wicket-keeper batter became the third fastest to reach the 14000 T20 runs in 468 innings.

LSG was not clinical with the bat in the first innings. Most of their batters got starts but failed to convert them into strong scores. That didn’t let the hosts have momentum with them as they limped badly in the middle overs.

Brief Scores (at the time of writing): GT- 159/3 (J Buttler 60, S Gill 56, P Yadav 1/31) vs LSG 164/8 (A Markram 30, P Krishna 4/28)
