Shubman Gill to become India's new vice-captain for upcoming Asia Cup 2025 in UAE? Reports drop bombshell
Report has addressed that Shubman Gill would become India's new vice-captain for upcoming Asia Cup 2025 in UAE.

Shubman Gill’s life regarding the captaincy of the Indian team has changed hugely. When he landed in England with the young squad for the five-match Test series, many questioned whether he could be the right person to be in the position. But in seven weeks, his life has changed, as the drawn five-match series has elevated the batter to possibly become the Blue Brigade’s new vice-captain for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025.
Suryakumar Yadav has already started batting in the nets at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru and is on the road to gaining full fitness ahead of the Asia Cup. On the other hand, Gill made his T20I debut for India during last year’s series in Sri Lanka. However, there will be questions on his position on the side with Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson taking the opening slots.

The captain of the Gujarat Titans smashed 650 runs in 15 innings of the IPL 2025 at an average of 50 and a strike rate of 155.87, thanks to six half-centuries at the best score of unbeaten 93 runs. In the previous six editions, he has scored over 400 runs successively, which is a huge positive for the selectors.
When Gill was named the captain of India C in the Deodhar Trophy in the 2019-20 season, there was confidence in grooming the new young leader. He broke Virat Kohli’s record as the youngest captain to lead a side in the trophy’s final. With Gill setting a high standard in the longest format in England, with over 750 runs, he looked settled.
However, Asia Cup will bring a different challenge to his career, as he may look to aim and plan better for the upcoming T20 World Cup and later for the ODI World Cup 2025 in the future.
