Chennai Super Kings delivered a strong performance at the MA Chidambaram Stadium as they defeated Delhi Capitals by 23 runs in Match 18 of the Indian Premier League 2026.

After a few quiet matches, Sanju Samson returned to form with a brilliant unbeaten 115 off 56 balls. He was well supported by Ayush Mhatre, who scored 59 off 36 balls. The pair added 113 runs for the second wicket and helped CSK post a strong total of 212 for two.

In reply, Delhi Capitals struggled during the chase despite some resistance from Tristan Stubbs, who scored a fighting 60. Jamie Overton was the star with the ball, taking 4 wickets for 18 runs and putting pressure on DC’s batting line-up. Delhi Capitals were eventually bowled out for 189.

This win marked Chennai Super Kings’ first victory of the season, while Delhi Capitals suffered their second straight loss. Fans praised CSK for their strong comeback and were happy to see Samson back in form. At the same time, some fans raised questions about the Delhi Capitals’ approach after back-to-back defeats.

In this article, we take a look at the key moments and fan reactions from this exciting IPL 2026 match.

Key moments that defined the CSK vs DC clash

Asked to bat first, Chennai Super Kings posted a strong total of 212/2, thanks to a brilliant unbeaten 115 from Sanju Samson off just 56 balls. He got good support from Ayush Mhatre, who scored 59 off 36 balls. The pair added 113 runs for the second wicket and built a solid base for a big score. Mhatre played some fearless shots before being retired out to bring in Shivam Dube for the final overs. Samson looked in great touch from the start and completed his fourth IPL century, and his first for CSK, in just 52 balls. He also made full use of a dropped catch when he was on 55.

In reply, Delhi Capitals started well as KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka added 61 runs in just five overs. However, the game changed after Nissanka lost his wicket. From a strong 61/0, DC quickly slipped to 61/2 as CSK bowlers used bounce and tight bowling to put pressure on the batters. Jamie Overton led the bowling attack with an excellent spell of 4/18, breaking the momentum of the chase. He was well supported by Khaleel Ahmed and Anshul Kamboj, who kept things tight and picked important wickets. Key dismissals of Axar Patel and Sameer Rizvi made things harder for DC, while Sarfaraz Khan added pressure with sharp fielding.

Tristan Stubbs tried his best with a fighting 60, but wickets kept falling from the other end. A key moment came when Overton dismissed David Miller, which almost ended DC’s hopes.

In the end, the Delhi Capitals were bowled out for 189 in 19.2 overs, falling short despite a strong start. This win gave Chennai Super Kings their first victory of the season, while Delhi Capitals suffered their second loss in a row.
