Former India captain Sourav Ganguly is set to host the upcoming season of the reality television show Bigg Boss Bangla. The announcement was made during a grand launch event held at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on March 6, 2026. The event attracted huge attention due to Ganguly’s involvement. The inaugural ceremony at Eden Gardens was held a few days before the much-awaited India vs New Zealand ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 final.

Although the occasion focused on a television show, it was widely covered by sports platforms because of Ganguly’s presence. Bigg Boss Bangla is the Bengali regional version of the popular reality show Bigg Boss. The show itself is based on the international format Big Brother. Fans are excited to see Ganguly take on the role of host.

The show will be broadcast on Star Jalsha, and Ganguly was officially confirmed as the host during the launch ceremony. The event featured the unveiling of the show’s official logo. A large light show was also organized inside Eden Gardens. Several artists and actors from Kolkata performed during the celebration, and a celebrity cricket match was also part of the launch.

Ganguly Speaks About Dedication and Upcoming Biopic

During the event, Sourav Ganguly talked about how thrilled he was to host the show. He also mentioned that he would prepare carefully and take rehearsals before starting the project. When asked why he would put in so much effort despite already achieving great success in cricket, Ganguly shared his thoughts.

“A job is a job; no job is big or small. Whether it’s representing India in an Under-15 World Cup, playing for the country at the senior level and winning matches, or hosting a show, I would want to do everything with utmost dedication and perfection. My efforts won’t be any less,” Ganguly said.

Apart from television, Ganguly’s life story will soon be shown on the big screen. A biopic based on his career is currently being developed, with Rajkummar Rao confirmed to play the lead role. Reports also suggest that Aparajita Adhya may portray Ganguly’s mother while Boman Irani is expected to play his father, Chandi Ganguly. Meanwhile, Ganguly also returned as the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal in September 2025 after being elected unopposed.
