Sourav Ganguly, Dona get death threats

The former Indian captain, Sourav Ganguly, has reached out to the Kolkata police after receiving several threatening letters over the last few weeks, including the one that allegedly threatened to kill the star player and his wife, Dona Ganguly, as reports have claimed late on August 10.

Ganguly, who is the current president of the Cricket Association in Bengal (CAB), has filed a written complaint to the police station in Thakurpukur of South Kolkata after his office got two letters on Monday, as the senior police officer addressed.

As per the police complaint filed by the manager of Ganguly, the letters had been arriving in his name for the last six months, while the letters were not taken seriously. The two letters received at his office contained explicit threats to kill Ganguly and his wife and harm the people who are close to him.

The police, meanwhile, have started an investigation to identify the sender and find out the real motive behind the threats. The primary investigation has suggested that the letters may have been sent through a courier service, perhaps from the person in Belgharia.

“We are taking the complaint seriously and have begun an investigation. We are examining the letters, their source and the courier trail to identify the person responsible.” The official revealed this as per the report.

The Kolkata police are examining the movement of the SIM card, which was used by the sender, and have contacted the courier agency. The police are checking whether all the letters were sent by the same person.
