Watch: "Gambhir hatao, dhoni ko lao" — Sreesanth's brutal attack on India coach Gautam Gambhir
The former Indian pacer, S Sreesanth, has launched a brutal attack on the Indian head coach, Gautam Gambhir, by demanding to bring back for the former captain, MS Dhoni, in the future as the head coach.

The former Indian World Cup-winner, S Sreesanth, has launched a brutal attack on the current Indian head coach, Gautam Gambhir, as he demanded the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to bring back the former Indian captain, MS Dhoni, as the mentor of the national side.
Sreesanth’s comments have come just after India claimed an ODI series victory against Afghanistan, including the win in the one-off Test against the same opposition. They have also won the T20 World Cup 2026, beating New Zealand in the final, which came a year after they won the Champions Trophy 2025.
What did Sreesanth actually say about Gautam Gambhir?
Sreesanth was asked why India has struggled in recent years when it comes to Test cricket, as they faced two whitewashes at home against the Blackcaps and South Africa in the last two years. In response, the former pacer reckoned that both losses came during Gambhir’s tenure and added that he has an issue with Gambhir’s style of coaching.

“Change the coach, friend. India needs a mentor, not a coach. You have to be a brother first. You can't just laugh when you win and get angry when you lose. You've done well for the country, that's great. That doesn't mean others aren't trying. Have a mentor over a coach.” The former Indian pacer expressed in a new episode on Lallantop.

“When the team won the World Cup, all the credit went to Gambhir. But if Sanju Samson hadn't been there, Suryakumar Yadav hadn't captained, and the bowling changes hadn't been made at the right time, would we have won the match? Was the coach making decisions on the field? It's fine if we have a coach like Ashish Nehra, who remains involved.” He addressed.
How has Gambhir really performed as India's head coach?
Gambhir has been superb in the white-ball formats for the blue brigade in the coaching department. In the 50-over format, they have won several bilateral series, including the Champions Trophy. Meanwhile, in the shortest format, they have won multiple T20I series along with the T20 World Cup 2026.
Under Gambhir and the new leadership of Shubman Gill in the longest format, India drew the away series against England by a 2-2 margin in the five Tests. That came after their 0-3 series defeat against the Blackcaps at home, along with another loss against the Proteas.
