IPL 2026 to begin from March 28 as new season kicks off
The Indian Premier League 2026 season is set to commence on March 28, bringing back the excitement of one of the world’s most popular cricket leagues. Fans can look forward to high-intensity matches, top international and domestic players, and competitive performances as teams battle for the title. With well-balanced squads and fresh strategies, the new season promises engaging action from the outset.
However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has decided to cancel the opening ceremony this year. The decision has been taken as a mark of respect for the 11 lives lost in a tragic stampede incident in Bengaluru last year, which occurred a day after Royal Challengers Bengaluru secured the IPL 2025 title.
As per the official schedule, the tournament will proceed as planned, with the opening match to be played between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru on March 28. The season will conclude on May 31, with the final scheduled to take place in Bengaluru.
