The senior selector and the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) of the Pakistan Cricket Team, Aaqib Javed, has revealed the blueprint of how he looked at India for the betterment of Pakistan Cricket.

The senior Pakistan selector and head of their National Cricket Academy (NCA), Aaqib Javed, revealed that he had been closely following the success of the Indian cricket team and decided to channel his plans for the betterment of Pakistan's cricket. Recently, India won the T20 World Cup 2024, Champions Trophy 2025, and the Asia Cup 2025.
Aaqib Javed recalled that during India’s last tour to Pakistan in 2006, a senior official from the visiting side requested the PCB for the LCCA ground in Lahore, regarding it as one of the region’s top academies and facilities.

“I think we fell behind in doing the basic things correctly in our cricket system. No matter who you appoint as captain, coach, or selector, unless you have quality talent, nothing changes. And quality can only be assured by increasing bench strength and competition, which is possible only with proper infrastructure and systems.” Javed expressed during a recent podcast on the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The T20 World Cup 2026 is scheduled to take place in India and Sri Lanka early next year, starting from the first week of February. Javed believed that this was the best time for Pakistan Cricket to make an impact on the global stage of the game.
“The indications are all there. We have good players; they have combined well, and most importantly, there is now a choice of players. If the World Cup had been in Australia or South Africa, I would have thought differently. But this is the best time for the team to do well. Nowadays, talent is also about mental strength because players are constantly under scrutiny.” The former pacer added.
“They can’t move around freely, and their every move is examined. So you have to assess how mentally tough a player is. Criticism is an aftershock; it only comes after a poor performance. So why should I mind it? That is how accountability works in a system. Yes, sometimes criticism becomes personal, and some criticize everything.” Javed addressed in the podcast.
