Google CEO Sundar Pichai congratulated Team India after their historic T20 World Cup 2026 victory over New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

India made history on Sunday, the 8th of March, by beating New Zealand in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final. As a result, India has become the first team to retain the T20 World Cup title. The match took place at the packed Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Cricket lovers went berserk as the Men in Blue lifted their third T20 World Cup trophy.
New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner decided to bowl first after winning the toss on a batting-friendly pitch. The Indian cricket team’s top-order batsmen took full advantage of the batting-friendly pitch and dominated the Kiwi bowlers. Abhishek Sharma gave a fiery start with a quick 52 off 21 balls. Ishan Kishan also played a crucial innings by hitting 54 runs off just 25 balls.

He shared a message praising the Indian cricket team’s achievement and the atmosphere at the stadium. "Congrats India on winning the ICC Men's T20 World Cup! chose the wrong game to go watch:) what a stadium and atmosphere. Well played to the other semi finalists, SA, Eng and Nz!! Also so exciting to see the game expand to so many countries and congrats to ICC for a great tournament!" he wrote.
India Dominates Final With Bat and Ball
Sanju Samson continued his superb form in the tournament with a brilliant innings. The wicketkeeper-batter smashed 89 runs off 46 balls, putting New Zealand under heavy pressure. Although James Neesham picked up three wickets in the 16th over, Shivam Dube’s unbeaten 26 from just eight balls pushed India past the 250-run mark. India eventually finished with a massive total of 255.

New Zealand faced a huge challenge while chasing 256 runs. Finn Allen received an early lifeline after being dropped by Shivam Dube but was dismissed soon after for nine. Rachin Ravindra, Glenn Phillips and Mark Chapman also failed to make big contributions as India kept taking wickets at regular intervals.
Tim Seifert tried to fight back with a valiant half-century, while Mitchell Santner scored 43 from 35 balls. But the target was beyond the reach of the Black Caps, who were all out for 159. Jasprit Bumrah bowled a brilliant spell, taking 4/15 in four overs and was awarded the Player of the Match for his exceptional bowling.
