T20 WC 2024, Super Eight, Australia vs Bangladesh: Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy shine amidst batting collapse - Cricket Winner

The Super Eight match of Group 1 of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is currently occurring between Australia vs Bangladesh at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua on Jun 20, 08:30 PM local. Australia won the toss and opted to bowl first. Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy shone with the bat and helped his side post a modest total amidst the batting collapse.

Put into bat first, Bangladesh had a worst possible start. Their opener Tanzid Hasan got out for a three-ball duck, courtesy of Mitchell Starc who bowled him. Meanwhile, Litton Das got out for 16 runs only. However, Najmul Hossain Shanto steadied the ship with Towhid Hridoy.

While Shanto scored 41 off 36 with 5 fours and a six, Hridoy managed to score a quick 40 off 28 with 2 fours and as many sixes as well. However, wickets at regular intervals didn’t let Bangladesh batters settle down in the middle. Taskin Ahmed, however, tried to score quickly towards the end as he smashed a quick 13 off 7 with a four. But he didn’t get much support from the other end.

Pat Cummins claimed a hat-trick

Australian bowlers did exceptionally well. Their combined efforts helped Australia restrict Bangladesh to 140 for 8 in 19.3 overs. Pat Cummins claimed three wickets which was a hat trick also whereas Adam Zampa picked up two wickets as well. With this hattrick, Pat Cummins became the fourth Australian bowler to do so in T20Is and seventh overall to do so in Men’s T20 World Cup as well.

Adam Zampa said after the first innings: “We had the experience of playing here last week. We kinda knew what to expect. The wicket is a little bit different from last time. The odd ball is doing something funny, but generally pretty good wicket. If I don’t feel it (full control of his bowling), at least I try to look like I feel it. The ball feels like it’s coming out nicely at the moment. I work hard behind the scenes with my planning and I get the full backing from the captain and the coach to go out there and get wickets. (Target) It’s definitely gettable if we bat well.”
