TN Player fined ₹1 Lakh, banned from TNPL 2026: Full details

A young star cricketer from Tamil Nadu has been fined INR 1 lakh for breaching the anti-corruption protocols during the ongoing 2026 season of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) as the player was found to be using an undeclared mobile inside the PMOA (Players and Match Officials Area) during the encounter.

The incident took place on August 10 at the NPR College Ground in Natham, Dindigul, during the game in the TNPL. The BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unite (ACSU) reported the matter to the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA), which has been under investigation now.

The 26-year-old made his debut in the Ranji Trophy last season and has been a left-handed batter. He smashed two half-centuries for the Tamil Nadu side in the previous campaign of the Ranji. The officials of the TNCA has reckoned that he was found to be texting his girlfriend during the match. However, no evidence of contact or any corruption-related activity was found.

The ACSU treated the use of the phone inside the PMOA as a breach of the anti-corruption code as the player was served a notice and asked to explain the violation with his response was deemed unsatisfactory.

The ACSU’s investigation didn’t uncover any activity on the phone which has been directly linked to the bookmakers. But him bringing the phone into the PMOA has been considered a violation.

Player Ruled Out for Rest of TNPL 2026 — How It Affects His Team's Playoff Push

The player has immediately been withdrawn from the TNPL side and didn’t feature in their last game. The secretary of the tournament, U Bhagawandas Rao, confirmed that the association had received a communication from ACSU and the player would remain unavailable as long as the enquiry continues. The BCCI, however, hasn't revealed the player's name.

“We have received a letter (from the ACSU) about this incident. We have instructed the team owners not to consider him for selection until the enquiry is over. We are currently investigating the matter and will take appropriate action.” Rao said in the recent report.

“While no corruption charges has been levelled, using mobile phone in PMOA during course of a match is prohibited. Hence, it's a protocol breach.” The senior TNCA official informed.

A similar such situation took place during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 when the manager of the Rajasthan Royals, Romin Bhinder, was fined INR 1 lakh for using a mobile phone in the team’s dugout during the match.
