Team India Asia Cup 2025 team update: Shubman Gill doubtful, Shreyas Iyer can get call

Team India's squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 can be filled with lots of surprises. Ajit Agarkar led BCCI's selection committee to choose a limited number of players among too many prominent talents who have the potential to represent the Men in Blue Brigade in T20Is.

There are multiple reports, published in the recent past, claiming that Shubman Gill could join the Asia Cup 2025 squad. Now, a recently published media report claimed something different. It is now claimed that Gill, the captain of India's Test team, is unlikely to be picked for the tournament. Adding more surprise, the report further claimed that the board can pick Shreyas Iyer for the prestigious tournament.

The fresh claims are contradictory to previously emerged claims, where it was said that Iyer's selection is in doubt, and Gill can bond with Suryakumar Yadav for leadership duties as the vice-captain of the team. But why can BCCI rule out Shubman Gill from the squad? Workload management can be a reason.

For that, the team management will try to protect their top-tier talents. If the board asks Shubman Gill to take a rest during the Asia Cup, then it can be a strategic move.
