On the sixth fixture of The Hundred 2025 between the Welsh Fire and London Spirit at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff, both teams came into the clash after defeats in their respective curtain-raisers. The home side went with an unchanged playing eleven while London brought their England wicket-keeper batter, Jamie Smith.

The Tom Abell-led side won the toss and decided to bowl first on a surface that they reckoned would improve in the second innings. Sean Dickson and Jamie Overton also got into the side, as both aimed to open their accounts.

David Warner’s 70* leads London Spirit to 163/5

London captain, Kane Williamson, struggled to get 14 runs at a run-a-ball while David Warner remained unbeaten for the entire innings of 100 balls. The southpaw remained unbeaten on 70 runs in 45 balls at a strike rate of 155.56, thanks to eight boundaries and a couple of sixes, while Jamie Smith played an aggressive knock of 26 runs in 14 balls.

Turner nailed 24 runs in 14 balls, based on four boundaries at a strike rate of 171.43. All these small contributions pushed them to reach 163/5 in their allotted 100 balls. Josh Hull picked up two wickets.

Welsh Fire fail to chase despite Jonny Bairstow's 70*

Apart from Jonny Bairstow, no one stood tall in the entire batting line-up. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals as they found themselves 55/6 in 47 balls. The wicket-keeper batter later got into the aggressive mood with 64 runs in 41 balls with the help of six boundaries and three sixes, while Chris Green nailed 31 runs in 19 balls.

Bairstow extended his innings to undefeated 86 runs in 50 balls with the help of six boundaries and five sixes at a strike rate of 172 while Green made 32 runs. But they failed to make the chase as the London bowlers held their nerve and the right line and length to defend the score by eight runs. Richard Gleeson used the pace and accuracy for a magical figures of 1/25 in 20 overs. Liam Dawson had the same figures of 1/25. They ended up getting an eight-run victory.
