The Hundred 2025, Match 2: Manchester Originals vs Southern Brave full match highlights and scorecard

Manchester Originals began their fifth season of The Hundred against the Southern Brave at the home ground, Old Trafford in Manchester. The visiting captain, James Vince, won the toss and opted to bowl first as they missed Jofra Archer, their premier pacer, for the opening encounter.

For the home side, veteran James Anderson made his debut in the format along with Farhan Ahmed, who is just 17 years old. Their overseas slot looked strong in the presence of Noor Ahmed and Heinrich Klassen.

Manchester originals crumble to 131/4

The hosts got a fine start in the 63/1 in 41 balls as the captain, Phil Salt, and wicket-keeper, Jos Buttler, were smashing the tourists around the park. But once the latter got out, they struggled to find the timing in the middle overs as Klassen failed for 15 runs in 16 balls.

Mark Chapman later nailed an unbeaten 22 runs in 12 deliveries at a strike rate of over 180, with the help of two sixes. They added 42 runs in the last six sets of five deliveries as Tymal Mills picked up three crucial wickets for 22 runs in 20 deliveries.

Craig Overton takes Southern Brave home on penaultimate over 

Brave lost their captain, James Vince, on the 15th delivery of the chase as they made a very slow start. Leus de Plooy struggled for his 25 runs in 21 balls before Jason Rooy broke free to nail the big shots around the park. He drilled Anderson for the square leg for a six before smashing him down the ground for a four.

But Noor Ahmed made Manchester’s comeback with the wicket of James Coles. Despite of getying crucial boundaries, they kept losing vital wickets at the wrong junctures as the Afganistan spinner went through the middle order. They kept losing wicket to make it tough for them in the chase before Criag Overton smashed an undefeated 18 runs in eight balls to carry them over the line by one wicket on the penultimate over.
