'This Player' may be a good option for Kohli in case he gets injured: Bangar

According to former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar, Shreyas Iyer is currently being groomed to be the Indian team’s No.3 batter, where former captain Virat Kohli bats. Bangar believes that Iyer would be a good replacement for Kohli in case he gets hurt during a game.

In fact, Kohli was rested by the selectors before the third T20I match against the West Indies, which was against Sri Lanka. On Thursday, he scored 57 in 28 balls against Sri Lanka in the T20I series opener in Lucknow after replacing him in both matches. During a recent interview on the middle-order positions for India’s T20I side, Bangar refrained from engaging in the subject but instead selected Iyer as Kohli’s backup at No.3 in the batting line-up. Bench strength is increasing. As of now, Shreyas is consistently batting at No. 3, which is the position at which he is being sent. It is possible for him to become a very good option at No. 3 if Virat Kohli is injured, and that is probably where the team management is looking at Shreyas Iyer.

The middle-order spot will be filled by Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul along with Sanju Samson, who has been recalled to the side but did not bat in the series opener. Indian opener Ishan Kishan scored an impressive 89 on Thursday, helping India post 199 for 2 in 20 overs. After a 62-run win in the first T20I, India will now aim to seal the series with a victory in the second T20I on Saturday.
