Birmingham Phoenix Men lost to Northern Superchargers Men in the Hundred 2025 match 14

Birmingham Phoenix Men suffered a 36-run defeat against Northern Superchargers Men in Match 14 of The Hundred 2025 at Headingley. The Superchargers, powered by Dawid Malan’s 58 and Zak Crawley’s 45, piled up a massive 193/5 on the board. In reply, Phoenix could only manage 157/9, despite a fighting 46 from Liam Livingstone and 48 from Jacob Bethell. The early collapse and key breakthroughs at crucial stages left Phoenix well short in the chase. Here are the key reasons why Birmingham Phoenix lost the match.

1. Superchargers’ powerful batting display

Northern Superchargers set the tone by piling up 193/5, the highest total of the season so far. Zak Crawley (45 off 23) and Dawid Malan (58 off 34) blasted a rapid opening partnership before Harry Brook’s 31 off 14 balls late cameo lifted the total further. Phoenix was left with a mountain to climb right from the start.

2. Early collapse in the power play

Phoenix started their chase as poorly as possible, losing three wickets from the first 25 balls. Matthew Potts took two wickets in the powerplay, piercing through the top order and leaving Phoenix nothing but disarray. As the run rate began to climb, their middle order was left under pressure to bat to catch up.

3. Rashid’s breakthrough and disciplined bowling

After a solid 80 run stand between Livingstone and Bethell, Phoenix lost all of their momentum. Adil Rashid’s clever caught-and-bowled dismissal of Bethell turned the tide back in Northern’s favor. With Potts (3/26) and others keeping it tight, Phoenix’s chase fizzled out.
