Birmingham Phoenix Men lost to Trent Rockets Men in Match 31 of The Hundred 2025. Due to the lack of firepower from the Phoenix batting order, they were limited to 111/9 in their 100 balls when they batted first. Rehan Ahmed-led Rockets’ bowling attack put the home side on the back foot all through the innings. Trent Rockets chased in 99 balls, achieving 113/7 for victory. Although a few wickets fell towards the end, the Rockets remained calm and managed to win by 3 wickets. Below are the main reasons for the Birmingham Phoenix Men defeat:

1. Rehan Ahmed’s Game-changing All-round Show

Rehan Ahmed had a great time with bat and ball. He was very impressive with the ball, getting 3/15 to dismantle the Phoenix batting. Later on, He batted brilliantly for 37 runs off 23 balls, and thus, he held the innings together with the bat. His brilliance across the board gave a complete turnaround to the Rockets’ side.

2. Poor Batting Depth and Collapse

Phoenix’s batting was terrible, losing wickets at regular intervals. No batter could provide a commanding knock to push the total higher and the lower order failed to add any useful runs as they ended up stagnant on just 111/9. That modest total was never going to be enough against the Rockets.

3. Trent Rockets’ Nerveless Finish

Despite losing 7 wickets, the Rockets were composed at key moments. Joe Root's 25 and Ben Cox's important unbeaten 17 in a run chase were sufficient to keep them going. Partnerships at key moments absorbed the pressure that Phoenix was putting on them through their bowling. The Rockets crossed the line by 3 wickets with 1 ball to spare on a final score of 113/7.
