Birmingham Phoenix Women lost to Southern Brave Women by 15 runs in Match 7 of The Hundred Men's 2025 at Southampton. Whilst chasing 140, Phoenix managed only 124 in 99 balls thanks to a fighting 44 from Sterre Kalis. The Brave’s robust batting platform and their balanced bowling ensured they were in command for the majority of the game. Here are the 3 reasons why Birmingham Phoenix Women lost the match:

1. Danielle Wyatt’s blistering half-century

Danielle Wyatt opened Southern Brave's innings with a 59-run knock from 39 balls, which was a boundary-filled burst of energy. She went on to hit the ball at regular intervals and thus maintain the initiative. Her innings laid down the groundwork for her team to set the tempo with confidence. This aggressive start meant Phoenix was always under scoreboard pressure during their chase.

2. Balanced Brave bowling attack

The Brave bowlers did not allow any batsman to settle in and kept the pressure on with economical bowling throughout the innings. Lauren Bell (3/17) was incredible; her swing and accuracy helped to dismantle the batting order, while Sophie Devine (2/28) and Tilly Corten Coleman (2/16) drafted in some quick wickets with their spells of bowling. Their collective workpower made sure that Phoenix never had a chance to come back into the game.

3. Lack of big partnerships in the chase

Phoenix got good starts from Sterre Kalis, Ellyse Perry, and Amy Jones, but none of them managed to utilize it into a winning score. The regular exchange of wickets did not let the side gain momentum. Without a dominating partnership, the run rate kept climbing, and the chase faded down the stretch.
