West Delhi Lions lost a very close DPL 2025 Match 17 game against East Delhi Riders by a margin of just two runs at Arun Jaitley Stadium. The Lions, after a late fightback, could not reach the target of 159 and ended up with 156/7. The game was highlighted by brilliant batting from both sides, but the key moments in the last overs changed the fate of the match to East Delhi’s side. Here are the main reasons why West Delhi Lions lost the match:

1. Arpit Rana and Hardik Sharma’s Dominant Partnership

East Delhi’s innings was led by a smashing 71 from Arpit Rana and an equally supportive 50 from Hardik Sharma. Their stand set the platform for the Riders' 158/8 which was a total that the Lions were always chasing under scoreboard pressure.

2. Missed Opportunities in the Final Overs

Although the Lions were in a strong position to seal the chase, the last few overs saw the loss of the momentum. Mayank Gusain’s 27 off 20 balls stirred the side but the tight bowling by Ashish Meena (1/21 in 3 overs) and a crucial last-over run-out spoiled the chase. These missed chances in crunch moments proved costly.

3. East Delhi’s Balanced Bowling Attack

The Riders’ bowling lineup operated as a single unit to protect a meager total and the task was not going to be easy as they were facing an attacking batting lineup. Mayank Rawat (2/18), Rounak Waghela (2/23), and Ashish Meena were impactful at crucial points, dismantling partnerships and dictating the run rate. Their calmness in the last few overs ensured the win.
