Match 10 of the Delhi Premier League 2025 took place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on August 7 and saw Purani Delhi 6 win by 15 runs over the West Delhi Lions. Purani Delhi batted first and scored a commendable 186/6, thanks to a powerful opening partnership and a hard-hitting middle-order show. West Delhi Lions, in their reply, were carried by a magical century by Ayush Doseja; however, they still lost, finishing at 171/8. Here are the key reasons why WDL lost the match:

1. Weak Bowling Performance in Powerplay and Death Overs

West Delhi Lions lacked the ability to restrict the Purani Delhi batters, especially during the powerplay and final overs. Particularly, the powerplay and the final overs were exploited. Samarth Seth (52 off 36) and Dev Lakra (47 off 31) made full use of fielding restrictions to put up a 79-run stand. Even after that, the bowlers leaked 54 runs in the last five overs, allowing Purani Delhi to reach a competitive 186. Key bowlers like Rishi and Deepak Sharma were costly, as both failed to find the breakthroughs at the critical moment.

2. Overdependence on Ayush Doseja

The inning of Ayush Doseja at 101 off 54 balls was an outstanding individual one that marked the highest score on the night. However, there was little to no support from the other end. The next highest score was just 19, and three batters were dismissed for single digits. The lack of partnerships around Doseja meant that the required rate kept climbing, and once he got out in the 18th over, the chase quickly lost steam.

3. Tactical Errors and Missed Opportunities

Field placements and bowling changes in the middle overs for West Delhi were called into question when they were unable to take advantage of breaking the first wicket stand. They also dropped a catch of Lakra in the 13th over, when he kept going on to score runs for Purani Delhi. With the bat, West Delhi struggled with bad running between the wickets and dot ball pressure, and together those tactical errors and dropped chances turned the game in favor of Purani Delhi.
