Twitter Reactions: Priyansh Arya brings up 16-ball fifty during PBKS vs SRH clash in IPL 2026
The left-handed opening batter of the Punjab Kings, Priyansh Arya, has celebrated his fifty in just 16 balls during the Indian Premier League 2026 clash against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

When the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) crossed the 100-run mark comfortably in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh, it felt like the home side would be prepared for a 250+ run chase.
But Hyderabad was not smart with their batting in the middle overs, and Henrich Klassen’s struggle with the bat in the death overs cost them nearly 30 runs. Meanwhile, to chase such a long score, it was important for the Kings to make a strong start with the bat.
Priyansh Arya smashes 16-ball half-century vs Punjab Kings
On the very first ball of the chase, Priyansh Arya got forward and swept Harsh Dubey to the vacant deep square leg fence for a boundary before slapping the spinner over the long-off region for a massive six. For the next three overs, he didn’t get many strikes and saw Prabhsimran Singh going after the bowlers around the park.
But Arya didn’t lose the shape of his batting. He reached out to Eshan Malinga’s full delivery and hit the ball that flew square of the wicket on the off-side. On the first delivery of the last powerplay over, the left-handed batter picked the slower delivery and timed it at the deep extra-cover for a massive six.
The southpaw backed it up with another six on the second delivery of the over, which was deposited over the long-on region. With two consecutive boundaries, the batter celebrated his fifty in just 16 balls. It became the second fastest fifty of the IPL for the Punjab Kings, under KL Rahul, who got the milestone in 14 balls against the Delhi Capitals in 2018.
PBKS make clinical start against SRH in 220-run chase
In this encounter of the IPL 2026, nearly 16 sixes were hit inside the powerplay across both innings, which is the most in an IPL game, surpassing 15 by Hyderabad and Delhi in 2024. Arya was finally dismissed for 57 runs in just 20 balls at a strike rate of 285, thanks to five boundaries and five sixes.
But Punjab, who reached 109/1 after eight overs, will need to be smart in the middle overs and avoid the same mistakes of Hyderabad. And for that, the responsibility will be on captain Shreyas Iyer.
Brief Scores: PBKS 138/3 (Priyansh Arya 57, P Singh 51, Shivang Kumar 3/29) vs SRH 219/6 (Abhishek Sharma 74, Shashank Singh 2/20)
