[Watch] U-19 World Cup 2026: Vaibhav Suryavanshi falls cheaply in IND U19 vs USA U19 Match 1

A bad in the field for the young explosive batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Today (January 15), India was up against the USA for the opening match of the U-19 World Cup 2026 tournament. Suryavanshi walked onto the pitch with a lot of expectations but ended up being bowled out. USA pacer Ritvik Reddy Appidi shattered all three stumps of the Indian opener. Suryavanshi marched off the field after facing 4 balls and scoring 2 runs only.

In the ongoing U-19 World Cup 2026, Team India is one of the front runners on paper in the title race as the team have a bunch of immensly talented batters and bowlers. At the Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo, in Zimbabwe, the U-19 Indian team started the first innings full of confidence, as the pace bowlers were thriving on the field with the new ball.

Keeping an eye on the weather, India U-19 captain Ayush Mhatre decided to field first after winning the toss. Mhatre's decision to bowl first was on point. The Indian pacers did a splendid job with the new ball, restricting the USA Under-19 cricket team to only 107 runs for 10 wickets in 35.2 overs. Henil Patel, who claimed a 5-wicket figure, was the best bowler of the match. Patel, with his well-controlled bowling, cleaned up half of the USA batting order single-handedly in his 7-over spell for an economy rate of 2.29.

The target of 108 for India in 50 overs was within the grip of the Indian batting order, especially when the team had two explosive batters, Ayush Mhatre and Vaibhav Suryavanshi, as the opening pair. In this match, Suryavanshi had the opportunity to break Virat Kohli's record in the age group cricket. But he missed the opportunity.

It was an upset moment for India when the umpires declared the match suspended. The match paused when India was batting on 21 for 1 after first 4 overs of the second innings. Continuous rain did not allow the match to proceed further.
